Spring Cleaning and Prep

Matt Rogers - Tuesday, May 11, 2021

Colorado Winter can stretch long into Spring, but as we enter this season of occasional warmth and snow, there are things that you can do to ensure that your home and yard are ready for Spring and the coming warmer months.

Raking leaves and debris that might have been frozen under the snow is a great way to start getting things fresh and ready. This includes clearing out weeds and dead debris, which will help the yard thrive and grass grow once the warmer weather comes.
Raking out thatch and reseeding bare patches of lawn can ensure that the grass grows in thick and even throughout the whole yard. Spring is a great time to do this as there is moisture and time for it to grow fully by the time Summer arrives.
Some of our rented properties have aeration and fertilization scheduled already! Aeration is a great thing to do in the spring to let the roots get the most water and nutrients. Aerating and fertilizing your yard is a great step to get everything prepared for the growing season and ensure a healthy lawn. Here at All Seasons, LLC CRMC, we do our best to ensure property value is retained and this includes the condition of the yard. We offer annual preventative maintenance to put both the owner and tenant’s mind at rest that these steps are being taken care of. We also conduct routine Exterior Assessments throughout the growing season to ensure the tenants are doing their part to keep the yard maintained.
It’s the time of year when sprinkler systems should be activated. After discussing a plan with the landscapers we utilize, we have decided to have manifold blankets and insulation installed on the exposed plumbing for sprinkler systems during activation this year. This will allow for us to not be so stressed when trying to get systems winterized ahead of any freezes that could cause damage later in the season while also allowing the yard to get that crucial Fall watering before going into dormancy.

With the snow and cold weather rolling in and out, cleaning the interior of your home can be a great place to start, if the yard is feeling daunting to work on. Here are some great ways to start getting the interior of your home ready for Summer.

Kitchen appliances can get grime built up over time. Use baking soda to clean stainless steel and a natural cleaner for your oven, refrigerator, and microwave interior. This is a great time to clean and organize cabinets and storage spaces in your kitchen. Maybe take a look at the condition of shelf paper and consider replacing it while you’re at it! While organizing, use a vacuum to clean behind appliances, in drawers and the interior of cabinets. Cabinets often gather grime if the tops are exposed. Laying down sheets of newspaper can help make this mess an easy cleanup. Just throw out the old newspapers and replace with clean sheets of paper whenever it is needed. Vacuuming the coils behind your refrigerator not only keeps things clean but can best ensure functionality of the applicant.
Bathroom deep cleaning can start in the tub and shower. Clean your shower head with vinegar to get any build up out and use a lemon to rid of water stains on faucets. Clean any gunk out of drains using a drain cleaning tool. Here is one that can help make this an easier process. Replacing the shower curtain liner and washing the shower curtain on a regular basis can help avoiding mildew as well. It is recommended to clean them once every month to three months.
If you have pets, this is a great time to give the carpets a deep clean. Vacuum first and then do some research on good carpet cleaning companies in the area. All Seasons, LLC CRMC recommends using a company that offers truck mounted carpet cleaning. We do not advise trying to self-clean, as you run the risk of damaging the carpet in the process. Traditionally, we have not seen rented steam cleaners doing as good of a job as a professional company but that can be a good alternative if you don’t want to hire the professionals each time.
Use a vacuum to clear floor vents of any dirt and crumbs that might have fallen in or if your budget allows, consider hiring a company to do a thorough air duct cleaning. You would be surprised (and disgusted) with what they pull out! Dust non-popcorn ceilings with a microfiber towel or use a butter knife to dislodge any stubborn dust that might have built up.

We hope that these house cleaning and yard maintenance tips aid you in getting your space ready for warmer weather and keep your living conditions as comfortable as possible.
